Our Mission

The First Selectman’s Youth Commission is a community of young people committed to promoting the youth voice in the Town of Greenwich. Inspired by First Selectman, Peter Tesei, The Youth Commission was established in 2014 to engage a diverse group of high school students--who represent different backgrounds, different schools, different geographic parts of Town, and different interests--to champion youth concerns for the purpose of improving the quality of life for young people in the Town of Greenwich.

As advocates of youth initiatives in the Town of Greenwich, members of The First Selectman’s Youth Commission review and address issues that concern and impact youth and teens, exchange ideas and collaborate with town entities and other youth organizations, and provide support for programs and initiatives focused on positive youth development and engagement. The Youth Commission works directly with the First Selectman and the Town’s Youth Services Bureau Administrator.

What We’ve Achieved

Each year we receive applications from students all over Greenwich to become a part of our commission to help better the youth of our community. Each member creates a project that they will work on throughout the year and can create a sub-committee group in which other members can help them reach their goals. Previous projects involved helping clean up our town, leading arts contests and science fairs, and raising money for scholarship opportunities to name a few. We love seeing the ideas each of our members comes up with and we can’t wait to see what other things we can do to help our community!
